Used this towel during my month of backpacking through Italy and Greece Summer '08. It was lightweight, absorbent and dried quickly. I am a 5'6" woman of average build and it was just large enough for a shower towel. The carrying case was nice because it also held my little bar of soap and travel shampoo.

It felt like this towel did more pushing around of water than actually absorbing it. It felt like I was wrapping a piece of suede around me. Given the option, however, I don't know if I had room in my backpack (I used it backpacking for a month) for a real towel. It's a toss-up on this one.

I wasn't sure whether I really needed this for my trip, but decided to be safe rather than sorry (even in defiance of all the packing light advice I had absorbed). It turned out to be a good decision. The towel packs compactly, but is quite expansive when unfolded. It is very absorbent but dries quickly and was really necessary to me in several of the places that I stayed.
