Angelina Jolie : her life (2008-01-15) Rating: 5/5
It's a very good summary of Angelina's life : her private life (her "dark" days, husbands, presentday lover Brad Pitt, relation with her father), interesting summary of her career to date (well until 2006)and her work with UNHCR.
Sometimes though the pictures are not very sharp (photos from magazines) but they are interesting. It's good to see extracts from movies (even from her very first one, Looking to get out), to see extracts from interviews, to see photos from magazines. I would say it's a must for Angelina fans (like me !) to have but also for other people wishing to know a bit more about that fantastic lady.
As a European resident, I normally purchase zone 2 DVDs but I have a DVD player software on my computer set on "zone 1" and it works fine. And there is no problem for you to have one software set on zone 1 and a second one set on zone 2 : good to know, this broadens your possible choice of DVDs.
My Girl Walks the Talk! (2007-08-01) Rating: 4/5
You can tell this was meant for a youth market or those obsessed with celebrities. Instead of having interviewees like Ph.D.s from UCLA or USC, it had interviewees from celebrity magazines. Instead of starting with her birth as John Voight's daughter, they spend the first five minutes on her romantic relationship with Brad Pitt. Unlike interviews in which Angelina swears that she doesn't steal men, this work implies that she broke up at least two couples. This work may feel dated because they don't mention her marriage to Brad or their biological daughter Shiloh.
Even though this is a documentary on a female celebrity, the interviewees are almost equally male and female. The interviewees are diverse, including two Asian-American males who get a lot of air time. I wonder if this relates to Jolie's adoption of Cambodian Maddux and romantic relationship with Japanese-American Jenny Shimizu.
This work isn't afraid to mention that many of her films were flops. Still, you can tell the makers love their subject. If you think that Angelina is beautiful and provocative and admirable, then you will enjoy seeing this. It's a work clearly designed for the masses. (Can I be honest? I think Madonna is a bit jealous of her.)
